The School Museum of Primary Education is located in the village of Vryssia, in the Prefecture of Larissa. It is a creation of coordinated and persistent voluntary effort and cooperation of dozens of members and friend of the Association “Active Citizens of Farsala”, founded in 2005. It is located just 7km from the town of Farsala, on the old National Road Athens – Lamia.
The building of the Museum was constructed in 1950 and it housed the Primary School of the village until the year 2009, when, due to lack of students, it ceased to function, in danger of being swallowed by the passage of the relentless time.
In the year 2016, “Active Citizens of Farsala” utilizing a grant of 95,000.000 Euros received by the LEADER program, converted the classrooms of the Primary School into exhibition rooms/showrooms and founded the School Museum of Primary Education.
Since then, hundreds of rare school objects, books, documents, toys, costumes, illustrations, educational and technical aids are exhibited in a unique and beautiful way in their natural space, mentally leading the visitors to the school life of the distant past.
The comparison of today with yesterday is inevitable, but at the same time interesting and instructive. For the elderly, a magical journey down the memory lane, emotions, and nostalgia. For the younger ones, visiting the place gives them the opportunity to get to know – in a documentary way – the course and the evolution of the historical path of Primary Education.
Retired teachers acting as volunteers, members and friends of our Club take care, completely free of charge, of the students’ guided tours and of their experiential contact with the primary education of the past.
After the tour, students have the opportunity to spend their extra time playing in the beautiful courtyard of the School Museum and the adjacent playground. All areas are comfortable, clean, tidy, accessible to children with disabilities and completely safe for students. We also have a mobile canteen and clean sanitary areas.
A visit to our museum will give children the unique opportunity to get to know “the school of dad, mom and grandpa” up close, and will give adults the opportunity to reflect on their youth. It will be a great pleasure and honor to visit us, and our Association will gladly make the services of our volunteers available to you. Your visit will give us the strength to continue our work, which we fondly love.
The rarity of the exhibits, the amazingly organized space of the Exhibition Room, the complete safety of our little visitors (students), combined with the easy road access and the important sights of Farsala, which you can visit, are some of the reasons that will not leave any visitor indifferent.
